Arthur James Fuller was born in Burwell (Newmarket Q4-1890 3B:475), son of George and Emily Louisa FULLER (née BOWERS).
1891 census...Aged 5 months, he was at North Street, Burwell with his father George FULLER [33] farm labourer; his mother Emily L. [32]; sisters Emily L [14], Rosanna [8] and Mary A [5]; brothers Alfred J [13] turf labourer, and William B [10]. They were all born in Burwell. 1901 census...Aged 10 he was at North Street, Burwell with his parents and sister Ethel [7] born in Burwell. 1911 census...Aged 20, a farm labourer, he was still at North Street with his parents and sister Ethel. The pension card has hs mother "opposite the church" North Street, Burwell.
His elder brother William, having been a regular solider since 1903, was discharged as no longer physically fit in November 1917, having had his left leg amputated. He died in 1950.

He enlisted in Newmarket.
Lillers, where Arthur is buried, was a hospital centre with the 6th, 9th, 18th, 32nd, 49th and 58th Casualty Clearing Stations in the town at one time or another. About 10 miles NNW of Bethune. It may be that Arthur was wounded over the Christmas period when the battalion were in the flooded trenches near Hulluch and suffering regular bombardment from trench mortars. They had around 20 casualties over the Christmas period |
